Half-Mastings
Page Content

Half-masting is the practice of lowering flags as a sign of respect and to express collective sorrow. It is a visual mark to honour the passing of an individual, a group of persons or an occasion of great sadness. Flags hoisted to half-mast are raised to full-mast and then lowered to approximately half-way down the flagpole and returned to full-mast following the appointed time.
