You spoke. We heard you. Web strategy feedback is in.

Workshops and surveys were conducted with residents, business groups, City staff and Councillors to gather feedback, insights, suggestions and recommendations to guide the web strategy to build a new vaughan.ca. Thank you for your participation.

Here is what we heard about what can be improved on vaughan.ca:

  • The current website is unattractive, cluttered and confusing.
  • The current website search function is difficult, and services are hard to find.
  • The content on the current website is inconsistent, inaccurate and outdated.
  • The current website doesn’t show what activities and events are happening in Vaughan in a simple and easy-to-use manner.
  • The current website doesn’t offer enough online payment and self-service options – which is very important to users.
Here is what we heard is currently working well on vaughan.ca:

  • The current website has a lot of information.
  • The key accessibility features are readily available on every page (font sizing, contrast adjustment, assistive technology app).
  • The translation capabilities are incorporated throughout the website using Google Translate™.

A complete summary of the findings can be found in the City of Vaughan External Survey Summary (PDF)

Part of the consultations included asking participants what they liked about other municipal websites across North America.

Here is what you liked about other municipal websites:
  • modern, accessible and mobile-friendly pages – compliance to Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) or the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Standards.
  • large, easy-to-read buttons and typography
  • real and relatable pictures of the city – no stock photos or cartoons
  • advanced search and filtering options (advanced search with filtering - City of Toronto example)
  • ability to log, track and close service requests online with the payment option capabilities
  • simple, clear and up-to-date content that is easy to understand
What’s next?

All feedback from consultations will be combined to help develop the web strategy and future website development.

In 2021, a Request for Proposal (RFP) will be released to secure a qualified vendor to design and build a new website. Finally, the development and public launch of the website will happen from 2021 to 2022.

The City of Vaughan is always looking for ways to improve the website. For any suggestions or questions, you can always contact webstrategy@vaughan.ca.
