Garbage

About the by-law

Garbage in the city of Vaughan is collected on a rotating basis and follows the Waste Collection By-law 135-2017 (PDF). Solid Waste Management provides information on collection dates and instructions on how to properly dispose of garbage and waste at the curb.

Rules

  • Garbage must not be placed at the curb before 6 p.m. on the evening prior to your scheduled collection.
  • Any waste and/or containers must be removed from the curb by 8 p.m. on your scheduled collection day.
  • The collection of appliances must be arranged by appointment only and cannot be placed at the curb until the scheduled pick-up day. When placing appliances at the curb, ensure that all doors are removed.

Enforcement

  • An enforcement officer who finds a violation of this by-law may issue a “Notice to Comply” letter to the owner of the property.
  • If the owner does not comply, fines can be issued for up to $20,000 for the first offence and up to $50,000 for a subsequent offence.
  • If a corporation owning the property does not comply, fines can be issued for up to $50,000 for the first offence and up to $100,000 for a subsequent offence.
