As part of the Community Services Commission, the Recreation and Culture Department plays an integral role in providing quality recreational, cultural and active living programs, services and events in an accessible, equitable and efficient manner to enhance the quality of life and leisure time of the City’s growing and diverse community.
The Department is comprised of the following areas:
Cultural Services Cultural Services delivers arts and culture events, exhibitions and shows for the community, including those at the City Playhouse Theatre. The Cultural Heritage Section processes Heritage Permits and Clearances for Vaughan's Heritage Conservation Districts and archaeological resource assessments.
Events
Events presents the Vaughan Celebrates program featuring Winterfest, Concerts in the Park and Canada Day - celebrations that enhance our sense of community by bringing together family, friends and neighbours. Other featured events include the Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony, Official Facility and Park Openings and Festive Celebrations as well as the Mayor’s Gala and Mayor’s Golf Classic which are the City’s premier annual fundraising events in support of not-for-profit and community organizations.
Recreation Services
Every year, there are nearly 4,000,000 visitors to Vaughan’s community centres. Residents have access to a full range of amenities which include fitness centres; pools; indoor arenas; outdoor skating rinks; a bowling alley; and, several bocce courts, gymnasiums and activity rooms.
From swimming, fitness, health & wellness, creative, performing, language & culinary arts, science & technology, and sports to school break and summer day camps, the Department strives to provide accessible and engaging leisure activities that make it easy for individuals of all ages and abilities to incorporate physical activity into their daily life.
